The Power of Tradition
The following exchange traditionally takes place before enjoying Ammerländer Löffeltrunk (in low-German dialect):
Host: "Ick seh Di."
Guest: "Dat freit mi."
Host: "Ick sup Di to"
Guest: "Dat do."
Host: "Ick hev Di tosapen."
Guest: "Hest'n Recht'n drapen"
This is the traditional way of drinking Ammerländer schnapps:
- Take good hold of the tin spoon in your hand.
- Lift the full spoon to your mouth, taking care not to spill any.
- Swallow the contents in one and place the spoon on the table or bar top with the hollow side pointing down.
- If you’ve left just a single drop of Ammerländer Löffeltrunk on the spoon, you pay for the next round!
