The Power of Tradition

The following exchange traditionally takes place before enjoying Ammerländer Löffeltrunk (in low-German dialect):
Host: "Ick seh Di."
Guest: "Dat freit mi."
Host: "Ick sup Di to"
Guest: "Dat do."
Host: "Ick hev Di tosapen."
Guest: "Hest'n Recht'n drapen"

The ceremony

This is the traditional way of drinking Ammerländer schnapps:

1. Take good hold of the tin spoon in your hand.
2. Lift the full spoon to your mouth, taking care not to spill any.
3. Swallow the contents in one and place the spoon on the table or bar top with the hollow side pointing down.
4. If you’ve left just a single drop of Ammerländer Löffeltrunk on the spoon, you pay for the next round!
